Talk for a few minutes to get a sense of magnitude of problem.
Ask questions → What is causing you to feel so bad? How long have you been feeling this way? What can I do to help?
Listen to them; validate their concerns and communicate your support.
Tell them you are concerned about them and would like to get further support.
Encourage them to make an appt with GP, counsellor or to tell parents. Help them to do this.
Insist they ring back the same day to update you.
