Sexual Abuse (also see abuse)
Sexual abuse is a sexual activity in which a victim is encouraged or coerced by an attacker, to carry out the sexual activity either on themselves or on another person, with or without physical violence. It is possible to abuse someone without there being any physical contact (harassment, grooming, exposure …) as well as with physical contact taking place (kissing, caressing, fondling, penetration …) It is always sexual abuse.

SELF-HELP
Advice for Young People
Talk to your GP/doctor or contact Your Crew to
help you get to your doctor.
If you feel at immediate risk call 000
Or
Kids Helpline:
1800 551 800
If you or a friend is being abused use the YourCrew app to alert your Crew and ask them to help you. We know this is hard for you but try to speak with someone you trust about it so they can help you. You should feel safe and anyone hurting you in any way will never be tolerated. This is not your fault someone has taken advantage of you.
If you’ve been sexually assaulted or abused recently you can:
- contact your Crew OR tell a trusted adult directly — this could be a parent, a family friend, an aunt or uncle, a teacher, a school counsellor.
- call a crisis service like the Kids Help Line: 1800 55 1800, or the Sexual Assault Crisis Line: 1800 806 292 to talk about what to do next
- call Police on 000 to report the assault. In Victoria ask for the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Unit or Sexual Crimes Squad
- It's important that you have a medical checkup. If the assault has been reported to the police, you can agree to forensic evidence being collected at this examination. Usually this is only done if the assault happened within the last 72 hours.
